Birtles, Shorrock, & Goble

Souths Juniors, Wed. 9 July 2003

Dr Igneous Kathexy and his mum in attendance. This is what she wrote:The evening at Souths Juniors went very well. We ate in the snack bar. I had the special: T-bone steak and vegs. for $5. We then moved to the nearly empty coffee shop for cake and coffee. The show was supposed to start at 8, but didn't start till 8.40! I was surprised that the audience didn't get restless, and I was very put out that we got no apology let alone explanation. However, the "Voices of the Little River Band" put on a great show. Only problem, inevitably, was the volume. I thought I would have had a headache, but I didn't. Apart from the discomfort of the noise level, there is so much distortion, and I gave up listening to the words. I especially enjoyed the instrumental bits e.g. the "duet" between 2 drummers, with one on the bongo drums, the guitarist who played flamenco style for a few minutes, and the man on the synthesiser who played the trumpet 3 times (what a great sound!). The lighting was very good too. The show didn't finish till 11.15! I was resigned to catching a taxi, but [Igneous] pointed out the courtesy bus. So, to my amazement, the bus took me right home, and there was only one other passenger, a woman who got out in Gardeners Rd., Eastlakes. The driver started off quite friendly, but then he turned his radio from a music station to a 2UE talk show, and turned up the volume so high that I gave up talking. I got him to let me out in the street outside [...], as the loud radio in the van would have woken up people when I got out.
